Common Confusion: Dryer vs Drier

Dryer vs Drier

Have you seen both spellings? Are they different? Is one of them wrong? Actually, we use "dryer" and "drier" in different occasions because they are of different parts of speech.

Dryer (noun), as in hair dryer Example: Because of how long my hair is, I need to bring a hairdryer with me even when I travel.

Drier (comparative adjective) Example: During spring, I like to turn on the dehumidifier when I am not home to make the air drier. It feels disgusting coming home to feel sticky and wet.
